Earlier this year through my travel agency here in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, I was able to attend the Christian Alliance for Orphans Summit that was held in Dallas, TX. It was at this conference that I was first introduced to an excellent alternative to Health and Welfare’s foster care program. After returning from that trip, I wrote an article that was published in the Kootenai County Christian Community Coalition (KCCCC) Newsletter that briefly introduced the idea of bringing Safe Families for Children to the Coeur d’Alene area. Now I have the privilege of speaking about this organization at the next meeting of the KCCCC on October 29. As a member of the KCCCC, I am excited about the opportunity that I have to introduce north Idaho to this wonderful organization.

As a lifelong resident of Kootenai County, a business owner here (TMI Tours & Cruises), and a parent myself, I am passionate about our local community, its families and children. Safe Families for Children is an excellent resource that can be instrumental in assisting families in crisis before they get involved in the system of CASA and the State of Idaho. It exists to aid churches in offering assistance to out of control family situations. Based on information given to me, because it is working and approved in Washington State, North Idaho is able to use Washington’s resources. There are some situations when parents do need the help, but don’t need to experience the bottle neck of government intervention. Their motto is ‘Empowering Churches to Care for Children in Need’. Through a well monitored process, it allows pre-screened, approved families to step in temporarily and take care of children at risk, with the parent’s permission while they address a particular crisis.

If anyone is interested in introducing the program to their church, I would be happy to put them in contact with the appropriate representatives. This is a great program to introduce churches and families to needs in foster care and orphan outreach within the United States and throughout the world.

I’m thankful for the ability to be involved in assisting children and families here in the Coeur d’Alene area. Again, if you are interested in learning more about the opportunities to use your business or church to make an impact on this critical need, please feel free to call me, Rhonda Sand, at 208-765-1111 or email me at [email protected].
